about me
Minnesota | NL 15-1
I currently compete on the 15-1 team at Mizuno Northern Lights, where I have been developing as a player since I was 12 years old. Training and competing in such a high-level national club program has pushed me to continually improve my skills, discipline, and volleyball IQ.
Some of my favorite club highlights include finishing 2nd in the AAU Premier division in 2023 and placing 5th in the Open division in 2025, competing against some of the top teams in the country. Those experiences taught me the value of preparation, teamwork, and competing at the highest level.
I also come from a competitive athletic family that has strongly influenced my mindset as an athlete. My dad played in the NFL and was part of a Super Bowl championship team, and my mom competed in collegiate golf before playing professionally. Growing up in that environment has taught me the importance of discipline, perseverance, and striving for excellence.
My goal is to continue developing as a player and compete at the Division I collegiate level, where I can contribute to a winning program and strong team culture.
Katriel utecht
My name is Katriel Utecht, and I am from Lakeville, Minnesota. I come from a family of six and have a cat named Judah. Growing up in a very active and competitive household has played a big role in shaping who I am as both a person and athlete.
My life is centered around my faith in Jesus and my love for volleyball. Faith is an important part of who I am and influences the way I approach competition, relationships, and leadership. In addition to volleyball,
I compete in beach volleyball with my twin sister Amy and run track and field at Lakeville South High School, which helps develop my speed, explosiveness, and overall athleticism. In my free time I enjoy spending time with friends, crocheting, and singing.
My long-term goal is to play competitive Division I college volleyball, which has been a dream of mine since I was young.
lakeville south hs
I play volleyball at Lakeville South High School in Section 4A, one of the most competitive high school volleyball environments in Minnesota.
My journey in the program began in 7th grade when I made the 9A team, which gave me the opportunity to begin building relationships with older players and learning from them early on.
In 8th grade I moved up to the JV team, which was also the year Lakeville South won its first state championship.
During my freshman year, I earned a spot on the varsity roster. Early in the season I was told that older players would likely see most of the court time, but through hard work and consistency I earned a role in the back row rotation for the remainder of the season.
Our team was consistently ranked #1 in the state, and we advanced to the state tournament where I passed a 3.0 rating in our opening match against Sartell. That season ended with Lakeville South winning its second state championship, an experience that reinforced the importance of preparation, trust, and playing for your teammates.
Being part of a championship-level program continues to motivate me as I pursue my goal of playing Division I collegiate volleyball.
